Freddy and Jason take a big tumble from last Friday, but since it's late
August, none of the three comedy openings have enough in them to knock
them of the top spot. And would you really want to piss either of them
off?
The Medallion
The latest Jackie Chan entry won't come close to the $15 million The
Tuxedo earned last year, with just an estimated $2.8 million Friday. The
Tuxedo inexplicably had a 3.3 weekend multiplier, but since this is still
summer, The Medallion is much less likely to do that. At best, it can hope
for a 3.0 and a weekend gross of $8.4 million.
My Boss's Daughter
Hooray for backlash. Thw latest Ashton Kutcher release earned a lousy
estimated $1.8 million Friday. Kutcher's January hit Just Married managed
a 2.78 multiplier; something similar can probably be expected here, so My
Boss's Daughter ends the weekend with $5 million.
Marci X
Less than $300,000 on Friday. Move along, nothing to see here.
Notable Holdovers
Freddy vs. Jason predictably collapses 67% from last Friday, yet bucks the
revolving door trend at the top spot of the box office. An overall weekend
decline of a bit over 60% is still in the works.
Open Range does show some legs, dropping only 35% from last week. While
it's not heading into the best box office period of the year, the Kevin
Costner-directed film should be able to keep it up over the next few
weeks.
Uptown Girls falls 53% from the previous Friday, and should have an
overall weekend decline of 50%.
