A re-pairing of the stars of a romantic comedy smash takes the box office lead heading into Valentine's Day. Awwwwww.
Fool's Gold
The re-pairing of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days stars Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson opened to $7.5 million on Friday. Going back to this weekend in 2003, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days earned about $8 million on opening day, on its way to a $23.7 million weekend. That's a 2.93 multiplier, and a pretty darn good indicator of where Fool's Gold should end up after this weekend. That's a $22.1 million weekend, more than enough to win first place.
Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins
Martin Lawrence's Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins managed $4.9 million on Friday. Another Wild Hogs or Big Momma's House it's not. I'm not expecting the mid-3 weekend multipliers both of those movies scored on their opening weekends. Something closer to 2.9 is a much better fit, and I'm looking for a $14.2 million weekend.
Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour
After last weekend's record shattering weekend, it's back down to earth for Miss Cyrus, though admittedly the original plan was for the film to not even be in theaters after last weekend. The concert film earned $2.8 million on Friday, a 67% decline from last Friday. It did manage a 3.59 multiplier last weekend, and I really don't see why that wouldn't be the case again this weekend, so it'll come in with around $10 million this weekend.
