For people who think you’re never too old to fight crime: Red (Special Edition)

In theory, the idea of an action-comedy starring the likes of Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren seemed good. Turns out it was, as this one surpassed $90 million at the domestic box office about a week or so ago, and – yes – performed so well that a sequel is already happening.

Truthfully, I’d be anxious to check out the demographics of the people who went out to see this thing. Was it hip baby boomers who just appreciate the talent involved? Comic book aficionados wondering how Red would be adapted for the screen? Young ones who have no idea where they’ve seen John Malkovich and had nothing better to do? Or, better yet, was it that elusive chunk of old audience that only CBS seems to have nailed down?

Whatever the case, Red was a bit of a hit for DC Entertainment and Summit Entertainment. Good thing too, as Summit has been having big problems in spending all that Twilight money wisely.
