2008 Calvin Awards: Intro
February 18, 2008
We were spoiled in 2006. It was a year of amazing quality, so much so that we found ourselves having difficulty narrowing down the best of what the year had to offer when it came time for Calvins voting. Unfortunately, that "problem" did not continue into 2007. Despite the fact that summer was chock-full of big-time blockbusters, the pickings were slim when it came to truly outstanding, awards-worthy films – and some categories were more challenging than others.
Even with lack of depth, we believe that our selections for this year's Calvins represent an eclectic blend of movies, with attention going both to the small indie flicks as well as one or two of the bigger financial hits of the year. There are even a few surprises to be found in some of the major categories.
Over the next five days, we will unveil our entire slate of 18 different awards, including recognition in all of the major film categories as well as a section that "honors" the worst performance and movie of the year. Additionally, since we recognize that entertainment goes far beyond the movie screen, we also give some dap to the best video games, albums and television shows of the year. Let's get started, shall we?
