The first big release of the year (no, sorry, Cloverfield) mostly delivers on Friday and props up an otherwise depressing box office.

10,000 B.C.

The prehistoric epic blows everything else away with $12.6 million on Friday. Not fantastic or anything, but not horrible, and it's going to be a very large chunk of the total weekend box office. Due to the dark void that is the current box office, 10,000 B.C. is pretty much the only option out there for anyone who wants to check out a recent flick, so it should come in with about $39 million, definitely a solid figure.

College Road Trip

The Martin Lawrence/Raven-Symone G-rated (really?) family comedy checks in with $3.5 million Friday. It's the family film of the weekend, as the Spiderwick Chronicles has run its course, but it's targeting older teens as oppsed to younger kids, which works against it. I see $11.2 million for the weekend for College Road Trip.

The Bank Job

The British caper flick starring Jason Statham pulls in $1.7 million on its 1,600 screens. These heist-type flicks, a la Snatch, find a much longer life on DVD than they do in the theaters. Give it $5.1 million for the weekend.

Notable Holdovers

Semi-Pro goes from disappointment to out and out flop for Will Ferrell, falling 66% from last Friday to $1.8 million. Weekend two should see $5.1 million and it's likely to top out at just over $30 million, a major bomb for the previously hot Ferrell.
