Trailer Hitch

Welcome to Trailer Hitch, BOP's look at the latest movie trailers to hit the Internet. This week: Los Angeles humanizes itself a bit, Disaster Movie literally lives up to its title and Bond is back (and looking better than ever).
In Search of a Midnight Kiss – Opens August 1st
Not sure what the gimmicky black and white is all about (perhaps a clearer explanation will surface when viewing the final cut). Either way, take that minor detail out and you've got yourself the makings of a very attractive indie comedy from (up-and-coming) writer-director Alex Holdridge (2003's Sexless). In the film, Scoot McNairy plays down-and-out 20-something Wilson who wishes not to spend another New Year's Eve depressed and alone. So best friend Jacob (Brian Matthew McGuire) gets Wilson to create a profile on Craig's List to hopefully land a date for the big day. A sexy, obscure woman named Vivian (Sara Simmonds) responds to his personal ad, setting up a certainly awkward and potentially hilarious trip through the streets of Los Angeles for two lonesome people looking for some love. Though still awaiting weigh-ins from more of the nation's top critics, the title currently sits at a perfect 100 percent over at Rotten Tomatoes. And I can understand why. This one looks entertaining and charming.
Grade: A Also expected to be released on this date: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Swing Vote, Midnight Meat Train, Frozen River, America the Beautiful, Sixty Six
Traitor – Opens August 27th
We're nearly 15 years outside the '90s release of Dumb and Dumber, yet any mention of star Jeff Daniels immediately brings said classic comedy to the forefront of my mind. Though he's been type-casted in my book, others appreciate his work as a dramatic actor, and Traitor marks another notch in his impressive resume (Tears of Endearment; Pleasantville; Good Night, and Good Luck). In the espionage thriller, Daniels plays a veteran CIA contractor contacted by FBI agent Roy Clayton (Guy Pearce), who heads up an investigation into an international conspiracy. All conceivable options lead back to a U.S. Special Operations officer (the always on-his-game Don Cheadle), leading Clayton around the globe to track down the elusive ex-soldier. The preview looks sharp, though the involvement of screenwriter Jeffery Nachmanoff (The Day After Tomorrow) scares me a little.
Grade: B- Also expected to be released on this date: None
