Hollywood tried really hard to not make this weekend interesting at the box office, but somehow we managed a surprise or two.

The Age of Adaline

In a bit of an upset, Furious 7 is topped on Friday by new release The Age of Adaline in the smallest of margins. With $4.9 million, the Blake Lively starrer becomes the weirdest answer to a trivia question ever. And you thought the pre-Avengers weekend had nothing interesting going on! Anyway, The Age of Adaline will not win the weekend, but will come in with a still better than anticipated $13.7 million on the weekend.

Furious 7

Unceremoniously dumped from the top spot instead of spending a full four weekends there, Furious 7 drops another 42% from last Friday to earn $4.8 million. There will be a strong Saturday rebound (last weekend’s internal multiplier was 3.5) so it will spend one final weekend at the top as we now see if there’s enough gas left in the tank to take it to $400 million domestically. All this really is just gravy considering it’s approaching a billion in box office just from international markets. Give Vin Diesel, The Rock and company one last hurrah at the top with $16.8 million for the weekend.

Ex Machina

Taking sixth place on Friday, buzzed about sci-fi thriller Ex Machina earns $1.6 million in 1,255 theaters. With outstanding reviews (90% Fresh at Rotten Tomatoes), expect another expansion soon. Look for a weekend of about $5 million.

Little Boy

Lastly, faith-based effort Little Boy (with some disturbing World War II naming allusions) earns $1.2 million in 1,045 theaters. This is just there and let’s just move on so we can all laugh awkwardly at it later on. Let’s give it $3.5 million on the weekend.
