Friday Box Office Analysis

It's the first weekend of the new year and we already have big news. No, it's not that a Uwe Boll film missed the top ten.
Hostel
The requisite January horror film sends the first shock of 2006 as Hostel topples everything else to capture the top spot on Friday, earning a quite solid $7.5 million. Last year's breakout horror film from January, White Noise, had a 2.7 multiplier on its way to $24.1 million. That works pretty well for Hostel too, so look for a weekend total of around $20.2 million.
Notable Holdovers
Well, there's not too much here that defines notable. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the 2005 Christmas season sweepstakes winner, is down 58.9% from last Friday, but that's pretty typical for the post-holiday season hangover.
With a signifigant expansion, Steven Spielburg's Munich is up 49.5% from last week as it is banking on some good vibes at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards.
Wait, What About
Oh, Grandma's Boy and Bloodrayne? They didn't even crack the top ten, meaning they threw under The Ringer's tenth place $1.5 million Friday. Sorry.
