How would Crossover have done if Nic Cage starred?

Kim Hollis: There were two other new openers last weekend. The Wicker Man earned $4.1 million this weekend and has a running total of $17.4 million. Crossover failed to make this weekend's top ten and has an abysmal total of $6 million. Which is worse - the cast of unknowns completely bombing out or the Nic Cage film with a $40 million budget being a complete non-factor?

David Mumpower: Both are bombs. So, it's a question of whether you prefer the hand grenade or the land mine.

Kim Hollis: Yeah, neither film is going to be something people remember in three months.

Tim Briody: What movies are we talking about again?

Reagen Sulewski: Wayne Brady needed to choke more bitches in the trailer for Crossover.

Kim Hollis: Also, they needed to show more Sweetness.

Reagen Sulewski: The Wicker Man just looked like a giant mess. It doesn't help that we seem to have turned on Nic Cage at this point.

Joel Corcoran: I think the Nic Cage non-factor of a movie is the worse situation. Nic Cage is still a movie star. Watching a group of unknowns fail is not unexpected, but seeing a film with an established actor and decent cast wallow in obscurity is unexpected. This is especially true for a horror film this year, when other films of the same genre have done so well.

Reagen Sulewski: I agree, mostly. Wicker Man has the potential to kill a couple of careers, whereas no one cares too much about the ones in Crossover.

Ho, ho, ho, it's magic!

Kim Hollis: The Illusionist earned $4.5 million, giving it a grand total of $18 million after two weekends of wider release. This is developing into a bona fide hit, is it not?





Reagen Sulewski: I think it is, and what's better is that it seems to be all based on word-of-mouth. I haven't seen a single ad for the film.

Kim Hollis: I've seen online ads, but certainly nothing on television.

Tim Briody: Yup, nothing here either, which makes it all the more impressive.

David Mumpower: A lot of that is because the distributor is Yari Film Group. They have been getting their feet wet with Find Me Guilty and now The Illusionist. This is proving to be their first true breakout production.

Kim Hollis: This is a huge, huge win for them.

David Mumpower: I have a tendency to agree. Any time a new distributor can attain this sort of credibility with one of their first films, they are way ahead of the game.

Remember the Funky Bunch

Kim Hollis: Invincible earned another $5.6 million, bringing its total to $45.5 million. Do you consider it a hit?

David Mumpower: I consider it a surprisingly strong performer. I had assumed that Gridiron Gang would be the success story between the two but I'm unsure whether The Rock's movie can match this performance. Invincible is another Disney sports film success story.

Reagen Sulewski: I'd say it's a mild hit, considering it's displayed some legs.

Kim Hollis: These inspirational Disney stories almost always seem to do well. Especially when football is involved.

Tim Briody: I think people just liked to see Mark Wahlberg get the crap tackled out of him.
