Fishburne Betting on 21
Laurence Fishburne is in the final negotiations to join the cast of Columbia Pictures' Vegas-thriller 21. The movie will be based on the best-selling book by Ben Mezrich, Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions. Fishburne will play a security chief who hunts down the six. Liza Lapira and Josh Gad have also joined the cast, which already includes Kevin Spacey, Jim Sturgess and Masi Oka. Robert Luketic (Monster in Law; Legally Blonde) is directing the film. Several other directors had previously been attached, including Shawn Levy and Brett Ratner.

Levy plays for 21
Shawn Levy is in negotiations to direct 21 for Sony. The movie was originally titled Breaking Vegas and had been housed at MGM. Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street Prods. is producing the project.
Levy would replace Brett Ratner, who is now at the helm of X-Men 3 for Fox. The movie is based on the non-fiction Ben Mezrich book Bringing Down the House, which tells the story about six MIT students who became experts in the art of card counting. They went on to win millions of dollars at blackjack from numerous Vegas casinos.
Peter Steinfeld wrote the adaptation of the book, and Spacey is looking to take the role of a professor of the students.

Ratner to helm Breaking Vegas
Brett Ratner has signed on to direct the MGM gambling caper Breaking Vegas, a film that is based on the nonfiction bestseller Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich. Kevin Spacey produces the movie, which centers around six M.I.T. students who learned became card counting experts and went to Vegas to take millions from the casinos. Peter Steinfeld (Be Cool) adapted the book to screenplay format. Spacey is considering taking a role as the M.I.T. professor of the students.
