Magnolia gets Lost
Magnolia Pictures has acquired distribution rights to The Lost City, Andy Garcia's directorial debut. The studio plans a platform release for the film, in which Garcia also co-stars along with Bill Murray and Dustin Hoffman. The story is a saga of a family set during the '50s and '60s in Cuba. Garcia will portray a Cuban nightclub owner who gets involved in an affair with the wife of his younger brother (Nestor Carbonell). Hoffman will play Meyer Lansky, the infamous nightclub gangster, and Murray will play an American expatriate living in Havana. Garcia describes the character as a combination of Jiminy Cricket and Groucho Marx. Murray will frequently provide commentary about the absurdities of the Garcia character's actions.
