Evergreen to debut AMC's digital distribution system
AMC Theaters is set to debut its digital distribution system for feature films with the indie drama Evergreen. The film will open on September 10th in 115 AMC theaters in 27 U.S. markets. The movie was first screened in competition at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and was written and directed by Enid Zentelis. The movie centers around a young girl who is seduced by a boy's affluent and happy family. As a result, she goes to extremes to gain acceptance and get away from her real family, which is poverty-stricken. The movie stars Mary Kay Place, Cara Seymour, Bruce Davison and Addie Land.
The AMC deal marks the first time the exhibitor has arranged directly with a filmmaker for a national release. The Digital Theater Distribution System transmits the movie digitally to each AMC theater via satellite as opposed to actually having a print on hand.
