Fox bringing Alvin and Co. to the big screen
20th Century Fox Animation, Fox 2000 Pictures and Bagdasarian Productions are set to produce a combination live-action/animated adaptation of the Alvin and the Chipmunks series for a theatrical adaptation. The studio is currently looking to hire a director and screenwriter, and hopes to find an A-list actor to play the chipmunks' "dad," Dave Seville. Alvin, Simon and Theodore will be computer generated.
The Chipmunks were created by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. in 1958, and the high-voiced trio and their leader, Dave Seville, went on to make recording history as they sold 43 million albums, won several Grammys, and had numerous animated series that appeared both on Saturday mornings and in primetime specials. They've been seen in over 100 countries and translated to 40 languages.
