Fox Searchlight gets Sunshine
Fox Searchlight made the first buy of the Sunday Film Festival over the weekend as they acquired worldwide distribution rights to Little Miss Sunshine. The only film to make a big splash at the festival thus far with audiences, the bidding war was quite heated and got all the way to the $10 million mark. The movie is the directorial debut of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who previously worked in commercials and music videos.
The ensemble film stars Greg Kinnear, Toni Collette and Steve Carell in a story of a motley family that travels to a Little Miss Sunshine pageant in order to fulfill the dreams of a seven-year-old. The movie was written by Michael Arndt, and is scheduled to be released this summer.

Trio aboard Little Miss Sunshine
Steve Carell, Greg Kinner and Toni Collette have all signed on to star in the road-trip comedy Little Miss Sunshine. The project will mark the feature film directing debut of commercial helmers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. Based on a screenplay from Michael Arndt, the film will center on a family who is dedicated to getting an eight-year-old into the finals of of beauty pagent, so they head across the country in a VW bus.
