Mandate goes for Juno
Mandate Pictures is set to handle production and financing on the independent film Juno. The movie will mark the screenwriting debut of Minneapolis native Diablo Cody, who producer Mason Novick discovered via the writer's Internet blog. Impressed with her abilities for comedic storytelling, he talked to her a bit and discovered she had written a novel. That book will now receive publication release later in the year. Her first screenplay, Juno, will center on the difficult but occasionally humorous decisions a teen must face when forced to deal with the prospect of an unwanted pregnancy.
