Carell is Almighty
Steve Carell is in talks to star in Evan Almighty for Universal Pictures. After taking in a $500,000 salary for The 40 Year-Old Virgin, he'll probably see an income increase of at least ten times that amount.
The movie is a sequel to Bruce Almighty that had originally been offered to Jim Carrey, but he decline to come back for a second outing. In fact, he hasn't agreed to do a sequel since the Ace Ventura days.
So instead, the producers/creators of the film have changed the story to focus on Evan Baxter, the news anchor in Bruce Almighty who won the job Carrey's character was seeking. When Carrey's Bruce received his almighty powers, he caused Evan to speak in gobbledygook. This time around, the Evan character will go on a quest inspired by God to build an ark in preparation for a major flood.
Tom Shadyac will return to direct the sequel, and Morgan Freeman is in talks to reprise his role as God. Steve Oedekerk wrote the screenplay. The movie is planned for production in early 2006.
