DreamWorks greenlights Madagascar sequel
DreamWorks has greenlighted a sequel to the CGI-animated film Madagascar, which made $200 million at the domestic box office and $300 million overseas. Jeffrey Katzenberg announced the news yesterday at Merrill Lynch's media conference in Pasadena. Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith and Andy Richter have all signed on to reprise their roles, with David Schwimmer, Sasha Baron Cohen and Cedric the Entertainer currently in negotiations. Co-directors Eric Darnell and Tim McGrath will return as well. The movie is looking at a late 2008 release. The announcement comes as DreamWorks Animation is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission over the company's failure to warn Wall Street ahead of time that sales were off significantly from what was expected.
