Quantum of Solace breaks franchise box office record
Quantum of Solace became the top-grossing James Bond flick of all time at the North American box office. The movie reached the milestone Wednesday, where the movie posted a cume of $167.1 million versus previous record holder Casino Royale's $167 million.

Bond film breaks Friday record in U.K.
Quantum of Solace opened big in the U.K. on Friday, scoring $8 million on its first day of release. The previous Friday best there was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which earned $6.5 million. Quantum bows Stateside on Nov. 14.

Solace moves closer to Thanksgiving
The new James Bond flick's release date bumped back one week to November 14th, a move closely tied to Harry Potter's new summer 2009 release date. Sony execs called the November 14th weekend more attractive for Quantum of Solace as it's closer to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Bond sequel rakes in green from Ford, Heineken
Like previous Bond films, Quantum of Solace will bank on millions of extra revenue through product placement. The Casino Royale sequel will again be backed by Ford Motor Co., Heineken beer, Smirnoff vodka, Omega watches, Virgin Atlantic, Sony Ericsson cell phones and other Sony electronics. And it's not just Daniel Craig's Bond who'll be pushing the products. Bond girl Olga Kurylenko will be used to advertise Heineken beer and the Ka, Ford's small European car.

Amy Winehouse stops recording for Bond
Amy Winehouse is no longer attached to record the theme song to the latest James Bond film. Her producer, Mark Ronson, said Winehouse is "not ready to record any music," adding it would take "some miracle of science" to finish it. The singer has been in the spotlight as of late due to trouble with drugs, the police and a romance with a jailed husband.

Aston Martin gets wrecked before the cameras start rolling
A $250,000 Aston Martin planned to be used in the latest James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, crashed over the weekend when its driver lost control on a tight bend and plunged through a safety barrier. The car was being delivered to the Italian set at the time of the crash. The 22nd entry in the Bond series is expected to bow Nov. 7 in U.S. theaters.

Brit audiences to see next Bond before Americans
The next film in the James Bond franchise will premiere to U.K. audiences a week ahead of its stateside bow. Quantum of Solace lands in U.K. theaters on Oct. 31 and in U.S. theaters on Nov. 7.

Producers reveal title of next Bond film
A closely guarded secret no more, the next film in the James Bond franchise is named Quantum of Solace, which will pick up where 2006's Casino Royale left off. The title is taken from one of five short stories by Ian Fleming under the name For Your Eyes Only. That title was made into a 1981 Bond film.

MGM announces latest Bond girl
The James Bond franchise's latest Bond girl? British newbie Gemma Arterton. Arterton (St. Trinian's) will play Fields in the tentatively-titled Bond 22, which will pick up where 2006's Casino Royale left off. Details of her character are scarce, but a production company rep said "it's a nice-sized role."

Amalric to face off with Bond
Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) was cast as the lead villain in the 22nd installment of the venerable James Bond franchise, set to hit theaters in November. Possible plot details are at a minimum, but the Daniel Craig-vehicle is said to be based on an original idea by producer Michael Wilson. Filming began today in London.

Michell May Direct Next Bond
Though James Bond's next entry into the film world won't be until later this year, when Daniel Craig makes his 007 debut in Casino Royale, Columbia Pictures is already actively working on shaping the next chapter in the franchise. Roger Michell (Changing Lanes; Notting Hill) is in negotiations to direct the followup, which has a working title of Bond 22. Craig would reprise his role as the super agent. No screenplay currently exists, but the plot is said to be based on an original idea by producer Michael Wilson. Craig and Michell also worked together on the 2004 drama Enduring Love.
