The Dark Knight crosses billion-dollar barrier
The Dark Knight broke its probable final box office record. As of Friday, February 20th, the Warner Bros. pic crossed the $1 billion mark in global box office dollars, becoming just the fourth film to do so in history.

The Dark Knight lands Jan. 23 re-release date
Warner Bros. plans to re-release The Dark Knight in theaters nationwide on January 23rd. The movie currently sits just $4 million short of eclipsing the $1 billion mark in worldwide box office. Just Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest have topped the mark. Said President of WB's domestic distribution Dan Fellman: "We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the bigscreen as it was meant to be seen."

Blockbuster to fly back into theaters in January
To benefit its Oscar chances, The Dark Knight is planned to be rereleased in Imax theaters in January. The film, a financial and critical success, has sparked discussion of possible nominations for its director, producers and cast.

Dark Knight team honors Heath Ledger
The end credits to the upcoming sequel to Batman Begins, titled The Dark Knight, will pay tribute to Heath Ledger, who died earlier this year from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. Technician Conway Wickliffe, who died from a stunt-car accident, will also be honored. The tribute reads: "In memory of our friends Heath Ledger & Conway Wickliffe."

Carbonell joins The Dark Knight
Nestor Carbonell, currently appearing as one of The Others on Lost, has joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knights. He'll play the mayor of Gotham City in the Batman Returns sequel and joins such cast members as Christian Bale and Heath Ledger.

Batman gets his Joker
Heath Ledger is set to star as the Joker in director Christopher Nolan's follow-up to his very well-received Batman Begins. Christian Bale will reprise his role as Batman in The Dark Knight, and the film will be based on a screenplay by Jonathan Nolan.
