Rubin and Miramax Have Doubt

Producer Scott Rubin and Miramax will adapt Pultizer Prize and Tony Award winning drama Doubt into a feature film. Playwright John Patrick Shanley will write the screenplay and also direct. The story is set in 1964 and focuses on a nun who confronts a priest after she suspects him of abusing a black student. The priest denies the charges, and much of the plot is centered on themes of religion, morality and authority. In the play the black student is never shown, and in fact only four characters appear. The play closed last summer after more than 500 performances.
