New Line hires director for franchise reboot
Commercial and music video director Samuel Bayer will helm the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot for New Line. The director was behind a number of iconic videos, including Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Blind Melon's "No Rain."

Freddy's back
New Line plans to relaunch the horror franchise A Nightmare on Elm Street, a series that began in 1984 and which helped launch the New Line studio. The franchise centers on villain Freddy Krueger, a child killer who terrorizes teens in their dreams. A writer will be hired to pen the remake when the writers strike ends.
