WB buys Mel Gibson starrer
Warner Bros. bought North American rights to Edge of Darkness, a new thriller starring Mel Gibson (in his first movie role since 2003's The Singing Detective). The project is currently in post-production.

De Niro leaves film already in production
Robert De Niro has left Edge of Darkness, a Martin Campbell-directed drama that began shooting in Massachusetts on Aug. 18. De Niro had just arrived on set earlier this week. A spokesman for the actor said it was simply a matter of "creative differences." Filmmakers plan to shoot around his character until a replacement is found.

Trio join Mel Gibson, Robert De Niro film
Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts and Bojana Novakovic landed roles in Edge of Darkness, a Martin Campbell-directed drama starring Mel Gibson. The film is about a vet cop (Gibson) whose son (Novakovic) is murdered at home. This leads to the cop's discovery of corporate cover-ups and other conspiracy fodder, including his daughter's secret life. Production is expected to begin this month in Massachusetts.

Mel Gibson: Back to a theater near you
Breaking a six-year absence from the silver screen, Mel Gibson is attached to star in Edge of Darkness, the actor's first film since headlining Signs and We Were Soldiers way back in 2002. The film, to be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), was penned by Martin Campbell (The Departed).
