Jolie to Learn Kung Fu
Angelina Jolie will voice a starring role in DreamWork Animation's Kung Fu Panda. The CGI film is about a panda waiter at a noodle restaturant whose body shape doesn't make him a prime candidate for kung fu fighting. But a prophesy has chosed him to be the "Chosen One" and save the day from some powerful enemies. Jolie will voice one of the martial-arts masters who helps train the possible hero.

More voice cast set for Kung Fu Panda
A number of voice actors have signed on for one of BOP's favorite upcoming projects. Kung Fu Panda, the story about a lazy panda named Po who accidentally shows up in a martial arts competition, revealing that he has the mark of the chosen one, already stars Jack Black in the title role. Dustin Hoffman will play Shifu, a tough kung fu master who must train the panda in the realm of martial arts. A master stroke of casting has taken place with Jackie Chan, though. He'll portray Master Monkey, a dedicated kung fu warrior with lots of natural talent - and also a reminder to Po of everything the panda is not. Lucy Liu is in talks to play Master Viper, another one of Po's teachers. And Ian McShane, the marvelous British actor who is currently tearing it up as Al Swearengen on Deadwood, will play the villain. Tai Lung is a snow leopard who is intent on destroying the Valley of Peace that Po has been sworn to protect.
John Stevenson and Mark Osborne are directing the film for DreamWorks.

Kung Fu Panda on its way
A few years ago, a couple of the BOP staff members noticed a burgeoning project at DreamWorks animation. The writers of Bulletproof Monk had provided the studio with a pitch for a goofy CGI story involving a kung fu fighting panda. It's been a long time in development, but at long last, Kung Fu Panda (originally titled Master P: Kung Fu Panda) has been announced as an official piece of DreamWorks Animations' planned slate of upcoming movies. Like Madagascar 2, it will be hitting screens in 2008.
Jack Black is set to provide the main voice in the CGI pic, which is said to be a take-off on funny martial arts films such as Kung Fu Hustle. John Stevenson and Mark Osborne will direct from a screenplay by Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab. The story will center on a lazy panda who has been prophesied as the hero who will save the Valley of Peace.
