Langella is Super

Frank Langella will play Perry White in Bryan Singer's upcoming Superman Returns, replacing Hugh Laurie in the role. Langella will star alongside Brandon Routh as Superman, Kevin Spacey (Lex Luthor), Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane), Parker Posey, Kal Penn, Eva Marie Saint and Sam Huntington. The screenplay was written by Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris.

Posey to play a villain in Superman Returns

Parker Posey will play Kitty Koslowski, Lex Luthor's villainous henchwoman in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. The rest of the movie's cast includes Brandon Ruth (Superman), Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane), Hugh Laurie (Perry White), James Marsden (Richard White), Sam Huntington (Jimmy Olsen), Kevin Spacey (Lex Luthor) and Kal Penn (Stanford).

Eva Marie Saint is Martha Kent

Eva Marie Saint (Because of Winn-Dixie) has signed to play Clark Kent/Superman's adoptive mother Martha Kent in Bryan Singer's Superman for Warner Bros. Saint is probably best known for her star turn in the Alfred Hitchcock classic North by Northwest, in which she starred with Cary Grant.

Jimmy Olsen cast for Superman

Sam Huntington (Not Another Teen Movie) has been cast to play Jimmy Olsen, the Daily Planet cub reporter, in Bryan Singer's Superman. He joins Brandon Routh as Superman, Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, Hugh Laurie as Perry White and James Marsden as Richard White. Kate Bosworth is also in talks to play Lois Lane.

Bosworth and Spacey to star in Superman

Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey, who played Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin in Beyond the Sea, will reunite as they star in the upcoming Superman. Bosworth would play Lois Lane, while Spacey is set to play villain Lex Luthor. Brandon Routh is cast as Superman.

WB confirms Superman rumor

Warner Bros. has confirmed that Brandon Routh has been cast in the role of Superman. Additionally, Gil Adler has come onboard to produce. He'll share those duties with director Bryan Singer and Jon Peters.

Trades get Superman story

A few days after the story was broken at the Web site Latino Review, both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter are reporting that Brandon Routh will portray the Man of Steel for Bryan Singer and Warner Bros. Both trades note that a deal has yet to be officially signed, however.

Superman revealed?

Latino Review and Superhero Hype! are reporting that Brandon Routh has been cast as Superman. A relative unknown, the actor has had some bit parts in such shows as One Life to Live, Gilmore Girls, Will and Grace and Cold Case. It had been reported previously that director Bryan Singer had been looking to cast an unknown in the role (remember - Christopher Reeve was a soap opera actor himself prior to being cast as the caped one). BOP will keep apprised of info on this story and report if this unconfirmed story is correct when we have more information.

Singer dumps X-Men for Superman

Bryan Singer, who helmed the first two X-Men movies, has dropped out of the third mutant project and signed on to do Warner Bros.' Superman. J.J. Abrams' script about the caped crusader has been scrapped, as Singer will work alongside X2 screenwriters Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris to create an all new story. Singer is still slated to direct the WB's Logan's Run as well. Singer's participation comes quickly in the wake of McG's abrupt departure from the project last week over budget/location differences with the studio.

McG officially done with WB's Superman

Warner Bros. has parted ways with a second director on the seemingly doomed Superman project. McG, who was brought on board after Brett Ratner abandoned the film, was unable to reach any sort of agreement with the studio with regards to filming location and budget issues. McG had hoped to shoot in the United States, but Warner Bros. was already building sets in Australia because tens of millions of dollars in production costs would be saved by filming overseas. According to Variety, McG really wanted to film in New York City. The director made his case in the aftermath of this latest firestorm: "When I flew to New York to scout, I became enamored with our greatest American city.
