Undertow tells the story of a southern family of men trying to hide a secret that threatens to overwhelm them all.
Dermot Mulroney (the best friend in My Best Friend's Wedding) plays a father of two young boys whose life is torn asunder by the arrival of his dangerous younger brother. This rebellious punk (played by It Actor of the moment Josh Lucas) creates rifts between the father and sons before an accident . Eventually, the boys run away from their controlling uncle and one of his most violent acts, causing him to pursue his nephews in order to assure their silence.
This is not a happy-go-lucky movie. The plot details that have leaked out indicate an unhappy tale of hate and vengeance. Indie director David Gordon Green (of All the Real Girls fame) has built a solid reputation for character development in his projects. With Undertow's success hinging on the dynamic between two generations of brothers, his efforts go a long way in determining the movie's fate. (David Mumpower/BOP)
