A charming celebration of what it means to be a teenage girl. Warmly recommended. |
The voices in Joan of Arcadia star Amber Tamblyn's head are normally associated with God, but now they are telling her to take on a new role. Tamblyn will play the lead character in this theatrical adaptation of the Ann Brashares novel.
The Brashares story revolves around four young friends who have never been separated before. When forced to spend time apart over a summer, the girls discover an odd connection in the form of magical jeans. While shopping at a thrift shop, the quartet discovers that this pair of pants perfectly fits all of the variously sized girls. Even better, the women all feel more confident and stylish while wearing the enchanted self-esteem boosting wardrobe. In order to share their vacation experiences together, the young lasses embark on the bold decision to swap the magical pants amongst themselves.
Does cinema reach a higher plane than the transportation of magical jeans from Greece to Baja California to South Carolina and back home again? I think not. (David Mumpower/BOP)
