Even the Paris Hilton slaughter scene underwhelms. Dark Castle has lost its touch recently. |
What would you get if you combined the talents of a couple of boyfriends from Gilmore Girls, the world's most recognizable porn actress, a woman who recently portrayed a porn star, and the Dark Castle business plan? The unexpected answer is House of Wax.
Fresh off of taking a risk with Gothika, the production company's first original theatrical release, Dark Castle has gone right back to re-makes. Their eclectic set of casting choices covers the broadest possible spectrum. Elisha Cuthbert, fresh off of a role which made her the masturbatory fantasy of teen males across North America, plays the lead. Whereas she only acted like a video slut, her co-star, Paris Hilton, took the practice one step further by making the most downloaded porn clip of 2003.
The producers of the movie, apparently sensing an imbalance toward evil, quickly added two Rory Gilmore suitors in order to add a bit of saccharine to the cast. Would-be heartthrob Chad Michael Murray and the adorable Jared Padalecki play the two male leads.
The 1953 version of House of Wax is widely considered to be the best 3-D horror film of all-time. Its story involved an insane professor who propagated a wax museum in an unusual manner. The madman captured people and encased them in wax, thereby guaranteeing himself the most lifelike figures. As was the case with the other Dark Castle re-makes, the underlying concept will be carried over but the storyline will be otherwise trashed in favor of a more updated usage of the same principals.
