Kontroll follows the exploits of a group of rag-tag ticket inspectors for the Budapest subway system. Led by Bulcs, who has apparently abandoned the world above ground, the inspectors are taunted, riduculed, and shown no respect by subway riders who believe they should be able to ride for free. For their own part, the inspectors aren't exactly the model of professionalism themselves. To top it off, a mysterious serial killer is pushing patrons onto the tracks in front of oncoming trains.
Kontroll falls somewhat into the working class misfits category, like Caddyshack or Police Academy with the loveable underdogs against the uptight establishment. It sports a darker tone and more stylish filmmaking with a high energy techno soundtrack. Kontroll is Hungary's official entry for the Best Foreign Film Academy Award. (Dan Krovich/BOP)
