It Runs in the Family
Release Date:
April 25, 2003
Michael Douglas has searched for a movie he could make with his legendary father, Kirk Douglas. He's finally found it. And don't think it stopped there with the Douglas connection. Michael also found a part for his son, Cameron, and Kirk's first wife/Michael's mother, Diana. Cameron, of course, plays one of Michael's sons, with Rory Culkin playing his younger brother. Bernadette Peters has also joined the cast to play Michael's wife.
The story is about a combative, dysfunctional family and their attempt to reconcile their differences. Kirk plays a top corporate lawyer coming to terms with suffering a stroke. Cameron plays Asher, the rebellious, elder son who is messing up his life with drugs as well as being a club DJ. In real life, Cameron went through the same type of problems.
Michael has commented that he has been impressed with his son's work on the film, even though he has had little interest or training in acting. He also commented about his father's role in the film: "He steals every scene, but what the hell, I don't mind."
This film has gone through its share of titles. It has been called Smack in the Puss, Smack in the Kisser, A Few Good Years, and even somewhere along the way it was Family Jewels. MGM has cleared this all up and confirmed that the final title will be It Runs in the Family. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
