Admirable, but surprisingly ineffective. |
Filmmaker Michael Tucker lived with the 2/3 Field Artillery, otherwise known as "The Gunners", for two months. During that time, he captured the lives of soldiers whose barracks happen to be the bombed-out pleasure palace of Uday Hussein. Their temporary home is nicknamed Gunner Palace, and is right in the heart of the most volatile section of Baghdad.
The director's footage provides a variety of scenes to give a real slice of life in the day of a Gunner. He shows them swimming in Uday's pool and playing golf on his putting green, then shifts to scenes where the group is carrying out raids on suspected terrorists, dealing with roadside bombs, RPGs and snipers, and even mortar attacks.
