A graphic, Shakespearean examination of revenge. |
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, the Korean film Old Boy has been building so much buzz that a North American remake is already in the works with director Justin Lin (Better Off Tomorrow) at the helm.
The story centers around an average man who is - for some strange reason - kidnapped, his family murdered. He is imprisoned in a hotel room, but given no explanation as to why he is being held. Suddenly, after 15 years, he is released, given money, a cell phone and expensive clothes to wear.
As the protagonist attempts to exact revenge and discover the reasons for his imprisonment, he soon finds that his kidnapper has further plans for him - plans that may serve to be even worse than his 15 years of imprisonment. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
