Crocodile Dundee reference almost saves entire film. Almost. |
From the Weinsteins and Dimension Films comes this chilling, fact-based horror flick about backpackers who are working their way through the lonely outback in Australia. Naturally, they are soon suffering through a vehicle breakdown and are happy to accept the aid of a friendly local named Mick Taylor (John Jarratt). He looks the car over and then somehow manipulates the group into letting him tow it to his camp so that he can replace a faulty part.
The trip isn't easy, as it takes hours upon hours to finally reach his homestead, an abandoned mining site with long-neglected tunnels and huts. While the backpackers cook him some food in exchange for the work he does, Mick tells them stories about his life as a professional vermin hunter. As the travelers fall asleep, he works on the car for them.
Things have taken a turn for the very bad when they wake up, however. They're lost in the remote Outback and no one knows where they have gone. But worse, our heroes come to realize that Mick has no plans whatsoever to fix their vehicle…or to allow them to leave.
Wolf Creek premiered at Sundance and has received positive reviews since that time. It should generate plenty of buzz amongst horror buffs in anticipation of its release. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
