Totally mismarketed as a comedy, this is better as a drama. |

It's not an easy film to watch, to be sure. Watch it for Vince Vaughn and a great turn from Jon Favreau. |

Masquerades as a romantic comedy, but is more drama. It's nasty too. Vince Vaughn is the best thing about it, as usual. |

Much darker than the advertising would acknowledge, The Break-Up fails to have enough comedy hijinks to offset its own bitter cynicism. |
So far, director Peyton Reed found breakout success with the teen cheerleading comedy Bring It On and had a great film, Down With Love, crash and burn in theaters. Now he returns with another romantic comedy that is based on an idea from Vince Vaughn.
Vaughn will star in the film alongside real-life love interest Jennifer Aniston. He plays a guy named Gary who hosts bus tours of Chicago, while Aniston's character, Brooke, is an art dealer. They're a couple who is romantically involved until one final argument convinces her to call it quits. The trouble is, they previously lived together in a condo, and neither one of them is willing to give it up. Strategy and tactics come into play as both Brooke and Gary take advice from friends, family and even complete strangers as they try to come up a way to "win". In the meantime, though, they'll have to live together in the hostile environment that has been fostered by their situation.
The Break-Up has a stellar cast in addition to Vaughn and Aniston. Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy), Ann-Margret, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jon Favreau and Justin Long (currently appearing in some hilarious Apple commercials and a previous co-star of Vaughn's in Dodgeball) are all onboard. Cole Hauser is part of the cast too, but don't hold that against the film. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
