A remake of the 1968 Henry Fonda/Lucille Ball comedy, Yours Mine and Ours updates the Brady Bunch-esque story for the 21st century. With Dennis Quaid taking the Fonda character and Rene Russo in the Ball role, the movie centers on a widowed Coast Guard Admiral (Quaid) and a widow handbag designer (Russo) who fall in love and get married. This, of course, is quite alarming to his eight children and her ten.
In 2003, a remake of a similar family film, Cheaper by the Dozen, found significant success during the holiday season. The difference, of course, is that Cheaper starred Steve Martin, who generally is able to open movies pretty decently, while Yours, Mine and Ours features Dennis Quaid, who has a reputation for being box office poison. He's had a couple of exceptions, though, with the most notable being The Rookie. Considering the fact that the target audience is probably similar, Yours, Mine and Ours looks to have a pretty solid shot at a breakout. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
