Turistas
Release Date:
December 1, 2006
As you can probably tell from the title, Turistas takes place in a country south of the U.S. border. In this case, the country is Brazil. Our story follows a group of young backpackers that are on vacation in this lovely South American country when a bus accident leaves them stranded in a remote Brazilian jungle. And this is not any ordinary jungle. This one holds a dark secret. For anyone who has read Scott Smith's recent novel The Ruins, the commercials look incredibly similar to that plot line, which might be a concern for Ben Stiller, whose production company picked up the rights. Obviously, it's going to be significantly different, but the idea of imperiled travelers in Latin America has some appeal all around.
The cast includes two young and good-looking stars. Josh Duhamel is the male lead, who you have probably seen on TV's Las Vegas. Aussie Melissa George has been in numerous TV shows and movies, including having a pretty big supporting role on Alias. Also, this film is the first distributed by a new branch of Fox called Fox Atomic. They are specifically aiming their films at male teens. So you can imagine what types of films they'll be putting out. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
