Joan Allen portrays an Irish-American scientist who is married to Anthony (Sam Neill), a politician. Strangled by the relationship, she becomes involved in a passionate love affair with a Lebanese surgeon (Simon Abkarian) who is exiled in London.

The movie was a hit at the Toronto Film Festival and is an experimental story told in iambic pentameter rhyming couplets. Naturally, for this reason, it evokes Shakespeare and is likely intended to do so. The lead characters, Allen and Abkarian, are simply called "She" and "He", never given proper names.

Director Sally Potter has found previous offbeat success with such films as Orlando, The Man Who Cried and The Tango Lesson. Yes is clearly aimed at aficionados of unusual films that are willing to take experimental chances, and should find some limited success during its arthouse-targeted release from Sony Pictures Classics.
