I suppose it gets points for being unrelenting, if you can suspend your disbelief that much. |
So far, Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company has remade horror flicks such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Amityville Horror. Now they'll revisit the C. Thomas Howell/Rutger Hauer classic The Hitcher, which will probably be equally lucrative.
The original film had murder-happy Hauer stalking C. Thomas Howell as he journeyed across country to deliver a car to another state. As if tormenting and terrorizing the protagonist isn't enough, the villain soon frames him for murder, which means the young man must deal with both the police and a scary man with a taste for blood.
For the update, there will be two young people stalked by a malevolent force. Sophia Bush and Zachary Knighton will play college students on a journey across states. Sean Bean will play the mysterious hitchhiker John Ryder, the role that was originated by Hauer. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
