This mockumentary/comedy features an assortment of some of the great talents who are currently working in the UK. Although their names aren't necessarily big in North America, they're certainly people who have achieved popularity in their native country in both film and television. Martin Freeman, who recently starred as Arthur in the theatrical adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, heads up the cast, and is joined by Jessica Stevenson, who had a brief role in Shaun of the Dead but is beloved by many of us here at BOP for portraying Daisy Steiner in the terrific TV comedy Spaced.
Along with Freeman and Stevenson, the cast also includes Stephen Mangan (Green Wing), Felicity Montagu (I'm Alan Partridge), Alison Steadman (Topsy-Turvy) and award-winning comedian Jimmy Carr in his first movie performance. To prepare for this movie about three couples who are battling to win the coveted "Most Original Wedding of the Year" award in a magazine contest, the group took part in several weeks of workshops, where they developed their characters. Director Debbie Isitt gave them complete creative freedom as long as they stayed within the story as it had been crafted. The film should be popular in Britain and attain art house success in North America if the strong cast fulfills its promise. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
