If you've had your fill of martial arts movies from China, this award-winning film (Jury Grand Prix-Silver Berlin Bear-2001 Berlin International Film Festival) could be just what you're looking for.
The film is about a teenager named Guei who has worked hard to buy his own bicycle. He scrimped and saved and was going to buy it from his boss when it turns up missing. He searches the city and finds the bike in the hands of another teenager named Jian, who bought it at a flea market. The bike is an important part of both teens' lives - Guei for starting a family and Jian for impressing girls and his friends - so they end up sharing it.
I'm sure this won't be a box office blockbuster since most foreign films are limited release. It does seem to be a nice change of pace from one of China's most talented directors (Wang Xiaoshuai). (Marty Doskins/BOP)
