One of the most horrifying theatre experiences through which I have ever suffered. |

Terrible. I long for the days of Leslie Nielsen and the Naked Gun gang. |

This is not a satire. It's an insipid recreation of several popular movie scenes. You'll find more wit and creativity in an episode of Gilligan's Island. |
Ah, the romantic comedy. It's a long-lasting Hollywood tradition. From Hepburn and Tracy in stuff like Woman of the Year and Adam's Rib all the way up to more modern stuff such as Notting Hill and Under the Tuscan Sun, these films always follow a tried-and-true formula that leaves its audiences with a very happy ending. Even the more recent raunchy movies like the American Pie flicks and Wedding Crashers have ultimately had a sweet, gooey center.
And so it is that the men who created the Scary Movie spoofs and Leslie Nielsen's Spy Hard have determined that the moment is ripe for a spoof of all such things. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer will try to duplicate their past success in these projects by directing and writing the film.
Alyson Hannigan, who became famous for her "And one time, at band camp" role in American Pie and her impressive long-term turn as Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will head up the cast. Her romantic interest will be played by Adam Campbell, previously of, um, Commando Nanny. In what is certain to be a hilarious casting choice, Eddie Griffin will portray Hannigan's father. Meanwhile, Fred Willard, who played Hannigan's father in American Wedding, will take on the role of Campbell's father. Confused yet? If not, we'll go ahead and throw Jennifer Coolidge, aka Stifler's mom, into the mix.
Given the success that Friedberg and Seltzer have had in the past, if their spoof is well-marketed, it does have a great shot at breaking out and capturing the attention of a crowd that might just be weary of all the formula. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
