A decent, if telegraphed, drama. |
After a couple of disastrous outings in Catwoman and Perfect Stranger where she was presumed to be the draw, Halle Berry gets another shot in Things We Lost in the Fire. Berry stars as Audrey Burke, a woman who has lost her husband in a horrific act of random violence. Struggling and looking for comfort, she moves forward in an unlikely relationship with Jerry Sumborne, a man who had been her husband's friend since childhood.
There are complications in being close to Jerry, though. He is a long-time heroin addict whose problem has led to the destruction of everything that has ever mattered to him. Still, Audrey realizes that she will have great difficulty overcoming her loss without Jerry's help. Together, they will struggle through their problems and sadness.
In addition to featuring Berry and del Toro, Things We Lost in the Fire also stars David Duchovny and Alison Lohman. The project is helmed by Susanne Bier, the critically acclaimed Danish director who has participated in some Dogme films as well as the recent movie Brothers. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
