Changing Lanes
Release Date:
April 12, 2002
Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson star in this film about road rage and right and wrong.
The story takes place during the course of one day - Good Friday, in fact. Affleck plays a lawyer who gets into an automobile accident with Jackson, an insurance broker. Affleck refuses to provide insurance information to Jackson and drives off. Affleck accidentally drops a file for a client that allows Jackson to track him down. Tempers start to flare up and the battle escalates throughout the day, ending in a climatic confrontation in Affleck's office.
Notes from early test screenings have given the film mixed reviews. The main comment seems to be that even though the film tries to make itself into a thriller, it actually isn't that intense and is more about the message of right and wrong. Writer Michael Tolkin (Deep Impact) has already given this film's first draft a major rewrite. It sounds like this tweak along with a little editing and good advertising could go a long way to making this film a success. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
