Functioning as an exploration of the world of nannies in New York City, The Nanny Diaries was written by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus, true-life urban nannies. Students at NYU by day and Manhattan nannies the rest of the time, they wrote about the life that combined, they experienced for eight years. Now, The Nanny Diaries has been made into a movie and will star Scarlett Johansson.
It is the story of a 21-year-old NYU student who becomes the nanny to an Upper East Side family. Anne (Johansson) had grown up in a rough neighborhood in New Jersey and through a chance encounter is introduced to the entirely new world that is the sophisticated and wealthy Upper East Side of Manhattan. But the more she experiences this new environment, the more she comes to realize that things aren’t always as nice on the other side. The family is demanding and self indulgent. All the while she attempts to discover her true self both in this new world and outside it, while engaging in romantic endeavors with 'Park Avenue Hottie’.
The Nanny Diaries also features a strong supporting cast of Laura Linny and Paul Giamatti along with Chris Evans, Donna Murphy and in her follow up to Smoking Aces, Alicia Keys. (D. James Ruccio/BOP)
