During this election year, one of the hotbed topics is the situation in Iraq. Thousands of American soldiers have been directed to go to foreign soil and protect the peace there. Home of the Brave is not a movie about what happens to Americans while they are in Iraq. Instead, the focus is the re-integration process where a soldier leaves a place of tremendous peril and comes home to reflect upon what he has experienced.
Samuel L. Jackson frontlines the cast of this movie about three soldiers who return from Iraq and attempt to return to a “normal existence”. Jackson, fresh from the disappointment of Snakes on a Plane, portrays a doctor returning from extended duty in the middle east. When the soldier returns, his wife is shocked to discover how much emotional damage the conflict has inflicted upon Jackson’s character. He is not the same man who left a few months before and she worries that he is having a mental breakdown. The other two soldiers from his unit are having similar problems leaving the horrors of war behind.
Rapper 50 Cent aka Curtis Johnson and relative unknown Brian Presley play the other two soldiers. Jessica Biel, Christina Ricci and Eva Mendez play the women who love these damaged men. De-Lovely director Irwin Winkler helms this potentially controversial MGM project. (David Mumpower/BOP)
