Further exploring the lost talking dog story, Disney presents Beverly Hills Chihuahua, a live action film about a pampered Chihuahua purse dog, Chloe, that lives with her owner in Beverly Hills. But things go horribly wrong when Chloe, voiced by Drew Barrymore, is separated from her master while on a trip to Mexico. Now, she must - with the help of new friends she finds along the way - make her way home.
This film boasts the typically impressive Disney voice cast of Salma Hayek as a mentor who puts Chloe in touch with her heritage, George Lopez who plays her love interest as a male Chihuahua, and Andy Garcia as a German shepherd. Also cast as voice talent are Cheech Marin, Paul Rodriquez, Edward James Olmos and Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as the very human presence of Piper Perabo as Chloe’s owner.
In keeping with his computer assisted, canine film making history, Raja Gosnell - director of Scooby Doo - helms this film.
As often has been stated lately, with challenges to Disney’s traditional animated crown coming from DreamWorks and Pixar, they very much need to produce high quality and successful films. (D. James Ruccio/BOP)
