I've never felt older. Also: those Jonas Brothers are some ugly kids. |
If you happen to know any girls between the ages of five and 15, you probably have heard the names Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus once or twice. Some of you may have even dished out in excess of a thousand dollars for tickets for her concert in addition to spending an additional wad of cash on Hannah Montana related merchandise to fill your child's stocking at Christmas. Disney knows a good thing when they see it, and this concert film is their way of capitalizing.
For the uninitiated, Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus are the same person, basically. Hannah Montana is a ridiculously popular show on the Disney Channel. Hannah, naturally, is played by Miley Cyrus, daughter of Billy Ray "Achy Breaky" Cyrus. In the show, she portrays a girl who has just moved from Tennessee to Malibu, and must adjust to the changes life brings as a result of that move. Additionally, she harbors a secret life as a pop singer which is looked after by her manager, Robbie Stewart, who is played by - you guessed it - Billy Ray.
Those not in the know will not realize that Miley Cyrus recently went on a massive concert tour, which became a subject of interest in the news as scalpers were successfully selling tickets in the $2,000 range. Parents were absolutely desperate to get their hands on tickets. One radio show was giving away tickets to the person whose name was closest to Hannah Montana's. On the last day of the contest, a little girl's parents named their daughter Hannah Montana (yes, their last name was really Montana) so that the newborn's older sister might have a chance to attend the show (she won).
With a price tag like that and tickets becoming extremely scarce, there were naturally a number of little girls who were left behind at home on concert day. Recognizing this, Disney is releasing a movie version of the concert tour for a one-week engagement, giving Hannah/Miley's fans a chance to see her show. The movie will be exhibited in Disney Digital 3Dâ„¢, and will assuredly make oodles of cash before heading to DVD. Between Hannah and High School Musical, Disney has some incredible branding going on, and this might be a sign of things to come for the studio as they take Disney Channel properties and send them into other arenas.
