Saw V
Release Date:
October 24, 2008
One of the most reliable events on the film calendar since 2004, this October will see the release of the fifth film in the Saw series.
What do we know about this entry in the series (of which at least one more is planned)? Saw V is a continuation of the events of Saw III and Saw IV, which happen to occur at the same time. Returning is, of course, Tobin Bell as Jigsaw, as well as Shawnee Smith, Scott Patterson and Costas Mandylor. Notable new faces this time around are Julie Benz (Angel, Dexter) and Meagan Good (The Love Guru, Stomp the Yard). The only real change with Saw V is that the directing duties will fall to David Hackl, the production designer of the last three films and not Darren Lynn Bousman, who directed sequels two, three and four.
While the law of diminishing returns has been in effect in the last two sequels (Saw II was the largest earner with $87 million), the entire series has been ridiculously cheap for Lionsgate to make, and we expect no different this time around, though Saw IV did drop to $63.3 million.
