One of the more successful films produced by British television station Channel 4, the film adaptation of 2004 novel Boy A will be headed to theaters in North America, distributed by The Weinstein Company.

The debut novel by British author Jonathan Trigell, Boy A is the story of Jack Burridge (Andrew Garfield), whom at age 24, has been released from a long prison sentence for a crime committed as a small child. Up to this point, he has spent the majority of his life incarcerated and now must adapt to the outside, and also come of age a bit later than most.

The film adaptation was nominated for several BAFTA TV awards, basically the equivalent of the Emmy Awards here. Garfield won Best Actor and the film was nominated in six other categories. Garfield has had two roles in films that (not very many, mind you) Americans have seen, being in last year's Lions for Lambs and this spring's The Other Boleyn Girl.

While not expected to get an extensive release, those who are fans of the book or fans of British works in general will most likely not be disappointed. (Tim Briody/BOP)
