This is one of the most unimaginative movie titles in recent memory. Just College? Not even something a la Snakes on the Plane such as The College Where Everybody Parties and Gets Laid or The College With a Bunch of Horny Coeds? Jeez. But before we succumb to the nasty habit of judging a book by its title, let's take a more in-depth preview at College, from rookie director Deb Hagan. The plot of the teen comedy centers around three high school seniors who visit a college campus for a weekend as prospective freshmen. You can be sure that the weekend will be filled with plenty of alcohol and drugs, excessive partying, hot young women, hopefully some gratuitous nudity, and more partying. And, to give the film a little more depth, we'll probably see some soul-searching and the trio of boys coming of age. Hot Nickelodeon commodity Drake Bell (from TV show Drake and Josh) stars as one of the three amigos, in the movie that is sure to be nothing like his straight-edged family-approved show. But his appeal is sure to draw many fans of the show, curious to see him in a new setting. There have been several profitable raunchy teen comedies in recent years, and the legions of horny teenagers out there may well be primed to see what they hope could be the next American Pie, Superbad, or perhaps even an Animal House (for you old-timers). But beyond Drake Bell, the little-known cast makes me think more of American Pie XII: The Next Generation. The quality of the movie and word-of-mouth will be the tipping point here. One thing's for sure. It will totally be the best. weekend. ever. (Michael Bentley/BOP)
