X Games 3D: The Movie
Release Date:
August 21, 2009
If you have ever felt the urge to be hit in the face by a skateboard or to feel the tires of a motorcycle skim over your head, ESPN films and Disney are set to grant your wishes and as an added bonus there will be no need to visit the nearest emergency room afterwards. X Games 3D: The Movie is the first ever sports feature film to make use of digital 3D technology.
Directed by Steve Lawrence, narrated by Emile Hirsch, and comprised of more than 90% 3D content, the film was shot at the 2008 Summer X Games. Featuring behind the scenes footage and interviews with the participating athletes, X Games 3D: The Movie should deliver the action that fans crave. Some of the musical artists featured on the film’s soundtrack include Green Day, The Cult, The Crystal Method, Peter Gabriel, and Eagles of Death Metal.
X Games 3D: The Movie highlights six athletes, documenting their sacrifices and tribulations as they compete on the industry’s biggest stage. These superstars include: skateboarding champion Bob Burnquist; Motocross legend Ricky Carmichael, known as the greatest of all time; the two-time defending X Games gold medalist in Moto X Best Trick, Kyle Loza; seven-time gold medalist in Moto X disciplines and two-time gold medalist in Rally Car Racing, Travis Pastrana; the man who created the first mega ramp and who was responsible for bringing Skateboard Big Air to the X Games, Danny Way; and finally, a star in both snowboard and skateboard, Shaun White.
If the idea of watching these warriors clash in 3D sounds appealing, viewers will have to take note that the film is scheduled to premiere on August 21, 2009 and will only be in theaters for one week. (Ryan O'Neill/BOP)
